Buenavista Community College

The idea to open a local tertiary institution in Buenavista, Bohol was conceived by the late municipal mayor, Hon. Leandro T. Tirol, to address the educational needs of the municipality’s residents.

They used an available municipal building in Cangawa, Buenavista as the site.

Because they couldn’t yet secure the required permits for independent operations early on, the college started as an extension class of the Central Visayas State College of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology (CVSCAFT) Main Campus in Bilar, Bohol.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to make that extension class was signed on February 12, 2001.

In the first semester of SY 2001‑2002, they opened classes offering Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED).

Over time, additional courses were added: Computer Science, Secondary Education majors (Technology & Home Economics, Mathematics), Hotel and Restaurant Service Technology.

In 2009, the MOA with CVSCAFT was terminated, and the extension class officially became independent and renamed Buenavista Community College. Thus BCC became an institution run by the Buenavista local government.

In 2011, CHED Region 7 granted BCC authority to operate/offer five programs: Bachelor in Elementary Education, Bachelor in Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

Sintininay Beach

As Buenavista’s tourism slowly grew, people discovered the beauty of its beaches beyond the well known ones. Sintininay, with its white sand stretches and calm waters, began to attract visitors seeking peace and natural beauty.

Over recent years (perhaps from 2022‑2024), locals or small investors may have added amenities: small cottages, simple huts/kubos, beachfront cottages, tables, shade huts, possibly a small canteen/food stall.

The access road may have been improved, signage added, possibly a parking area built to accommodate more visitors.
